Ms. Veteran America 2014 – The Woman Beyond the Uniform

On Sunday, October 12, 2014 – People from all over will come together to find out who will be crowned Ms. Veteran America 2014!  This annual event is a fundraiser in support of  housing for women veterans and their children.  To think about these women sacrificing their life for our country, and to come home and have to deal with homelessness is unacceptable.  This event is a reminder that our women vets are more than just women in uniforms, but they are mothers, daughters, wives and sisters.  Lets stand in support of our Sisters who put their lives on the line for our freedoms.  If you are in the Virginia area, support this event by going to http://msveteranamerica.org to purchase tickets or to donate to this worthy cause if you are not in the area.

#WednesdayWords – From Ex KTVA Alaska Reporter, Charlo Greene Who Quit Live on Air

BWSU recently posted the infamous video of Charlo Greene, Owner of the Alaska Cannabis Club who abruptly quit her news job live on air the other day.  The video has gone viral and everyone is talking about Charlo Greene and her cause of legalizing medical marijuana and decriminalizing it, or about the way she actually quit…either way #BlackWomenStandUp stands in support of Charlo for her courageous spirit of standing up for what she believes in no matter what, and for putting in the actual work to make her dream happen.

Update: Check out the video below of Charlo, and hear what she had to say on why she quit.

Peace and Love.

#WednesdayWords – The Importance of Loving Yourself

“Without love of self, it is impossible to truly love someone else.”  ~ Tiffany Braxton

You may think you are capable of being in a romantic relationship with someone else,  but until you learn to love and respect yourself, it is impossible to truly love someone else in a healthy way.  Love yourself, set values and standards for yourself and stand by them.  Part of loving begins with understanding YOU.  Before you can invest in someone else, invest in yourself; learn what makes you tick, decide what is import ant to you and what you need in order to be happy.

Know your self-worth, and never settle for less.

Peace and Love:)

Ruby Dee Quotes – #WednesdayWords

God, make me so uncomfortable that I will do the very thing I fear.

We recently lost another Queen-Mother, our beloved Ruby Dee, Award-winning Actress, Civil-rights Activist and so much more.  A woman who blazed trails and left such a strong footprint on this earth and our hearts.  A terrible loss, but a life well lived and a legacy built that will live on.

Today, lets honor her spirit and life by actually being a living  example of her above quote.  What would that look like in your life?  Let’s break the chains of FEAR, they have no place in our life – we will use it as fuel to do that very thing that we have been letting it stop us from doing!

Will you take the leap?

R.I.P.  Queen-Mother Ruby Dee
